Sanctuary

I enjoy weekends for so many obvious reasons, but something that I really get a kick out of is spending time contributing to my fashion scrapbooks. It started at the end of 2007 and not really certain as to what sparked the interest, but I began collecting various images from magazines that inspired me, outfits that were bold, original, and most importantly, inspirational. It feels so silly sometimes sitting there with piles of magazines and scissors in hand, but it has been so enjoyable maintaining these notebooks of clippings that provide some form of an artistic outlet (if I can say that). It’s also a great way to reduce what sometimes can become high piles of magazines/catalogs and keeps my hoarding tendencies at bay!

My little sanctuary is the study that I share with Dr. Love. It’s funny how it’s literally divided down the middle: his side is more serious, decked out in black and gold, and mine……..all colors of the rainbow are a perfect match juxtaposed with the Shabby Chic furniture.

  1. Not silly at all! It's fun, relaxing, and a really great way to keep track of the things that inspire you and give you ideas on how to shop your own closet. I used to do this at one point, but stopped because apparently our home is a mysterious black hole for scissors. No matter how many pairs I buy, there is not ONE damn pair around when I need to trim my bangs.

  2. I am jealous of your sanctuary and your scrap books. That is such a smart idea! I wish I would have done that with all the inspirations pages I've pulled from magazines. Instead, they stockpiled and then I ended up getting frustrated and recycled them. Cutting them out and putting them in a scrap book is brilliant! I totally plan on picking up one and start my own inspiration books from my stacks of magazines and catalogs. Thank you!!!

  3. Dea, I don't have a scrapbook but what i DO have are mountains of fashion magazines (a bit like Pamela!) that i have accumulated over the years. I don't know what to do with them. If i find the time (unlikely, but hey you never know) i may cut out the bits that inspire me and put them into a scrapbook as well. Your space looks very shabby chic indeed! I love white finishes when it comes to furniture.

  4. I do the same thing! I cut out pictures/outfits/catalog pics that inspire me fashion-wise and put them all into binders like a scrapbook!Your room looks so nice and inviting.I have that F21 top – it's pretty on you!

  5. I love your little side of the study! The colors are so inviting, and I am IN LOVE with that chair. Where is it from? Your scrap books are a wonderful idea, too — you can keep inspiration AND reduce on magazine and catalog clutter!

  6. Dea this is a wonderful idea! I tend to "snip" pictures of things online that inspire me but I don't often think to rip things out of magazines. Consider that idea filed away for future reference – many thanks!

  7. Oh Dea! I've been doing this for so many years. I have always been obsessed with fashion and magazines since I can remember. The magazines don't really make it intact for long lol. For a long time, I didnt wan to damage them but, they eventually took over my apartment. I normally dont cut W magazines or vogue. But, lucky and instyle and others I do! I either put them in scrapbook or I pin them in inspirational board
